Five good habits for a long and healthy life

Who doesn’t want a long and healthy life? After reading this article, you will see that it is not necessary to change many things to live a healthier way. Even small adjustments can make you take better care of yourself and feel better afterwards. Awareness, that’s key number one! In this article we would like to give you five tips to include in your daily routine. Small changes that visibly improve your overall well-being.

#1 Have oatmeal for breakfast

Do you really want to start your day well? Then replace those sandwiches with a healthy oatmeal breakfast. It is not without reason that many top athletes start their day with this. A serving of oatmeal per day ensures that the bacteria balance is restored much faster than when you fill up with white flour products. Whole grains such as oatmeal also reduce the chance of atherosclerosis. In England, a survey was conducted among 35,000 women in the pre-menopause phase. It turned out that women who ate 13 grams or more of fiber were 42% less likely to get breast cancer. It is relatively easy to eat thirteen grams of fiber. A bowl of oatmeal is already good for four grams of fiber!

#2 Three cups of green tea daily

Green tea is good for cancer and heart disease, at least if you drink three cups of it daily. But how does that work exactly? The magic word for green tea is ‘antioxidants’. Green tea is high in flavonoids. These flavonoids inhibit the harmful influence of so-called “free radicals” that play a role in the development of cancer, cardiovascular disease and aging symptoms. Tea is an important source of flavonoids, along with onions and apples. Yes, not only green tea, but also “an apple a day keeps the doctor away!”

#3 Eat a double serving of fruits and vegetables

From apples to pears, and all that other fruit that’s good for you. Eating five servings of fruits and vegetables a day is healthy, but ten servings is much better. Scientists from the School of Public Health at Imperial College London concluded that based on a study. Do you manage to eat 800 grams daily? Then you have a 24 percent less chance of heart disease, 33 percent less of a stroke and 28 percent less of a vascular disease. The risk of cancer decreases by 13 percent and in total you reduce the chance of dying early by 31 percent. It’s worth it, isn’t it?

#4 Drink two liters of water a day

Water is life. Throughout the day, the body loses fluid through evaporation, through breathing or through the skin. In addition, it loses fluid through urine, stool, sweat and possible breastfeeding. In total, this amounts to approximately 2.5 liters of fluid loss per day under normal conditions. So make sure you get at least two liters of water every day to stay hydrated and healthy. Your skin will automatically look younger again!

#5 Alternate hot and cold in the shower

What else helps for healthy skin? Yes, a shower! A warm shower is great, but even better is an alternating shower. A alternating shower is more than just playing with the hot and cold shower tap. You ensure that the pores of your skin open up, stimulate blood flow and help your body to remove waste products faster. During the alternating shower you change the temperature of the water from warm (38-40 degrees) to cold (colder than 20) for about 15 seconds. You can start with 1x, but it is better to build up to a few times per shower. You always end your alternating shower with cold water, this closes the pores. Due to the cold, the blood vessels and muscles contract, making your skin tighter. Just don’t forget to turn your thermostat valve back to warm after showering, your housemates will like that too!
